Chase's glove helps Phillies win the World Series

Game highlights….

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Tampa Bay Rays resumed Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday after the game had been suspended in the bottom of the 6th inning due to rain on Monday.

Leading off the inning, Geoff Jenkins hit a towering fly ball to left center for a double. Jayson Werth hit a bloop single and drove in the go ahead run. Then in the 7th inning, Roco Baldelli hit a home run to tie the game at 4-4. Jason Bartlett got on base and advanced to 2nd base on a fielder’s choice. Iwamura subsuquently hit a slow ground ball to 2nd base and Chase Utley faked a throw to first base and threw home. Chase caught Barlett trying to score and Ruiz tagged him out to end the inning. This play fired up the Phillies and Bruntlett scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the 7th, off of a single by Feliz. The Phillies never looked back and Lidge finished off the Rays in the bottom of the 9th.

Chase’s brillant defensive play helped lead the Phillies win their first championship in 28 years. After the game, Chase said, “I wasn’t going to let these guys down. Everything we worked for came true. I’m just so proud of this group of guys. You don’t see this too often, guys that care about each other as much as we do.” This is only the second championship in Phillies history and it was definitely worth the wait.

Chase! That’s incredible that the Phillies won the World Series, yay!! How does it feel to be the World’s Champs after 28 years? What an amazing accomplishment! I am so very happy to have heard that your hip surgery came out a success! I wish you well with your recovery over the next few months and look forward to seeing you play next season!
P.S. The Phillies came to San Diego (where I currently live) last year, to play, and a lot of people asked my husband if you two were related… They say somewhere you have a “twin” think you’re my husband’s.. Heehee :)

Chase, congrats on bringing home the WS bro. My boys and I watched every game, seeing my four year old root for you when you made stellar play after steller play was unreal. We are so happy that all your hard work though the years had paid off! You made all of Long Beach proud to root for the Phillies this post season!

The play on Bartlett in the 7th inning of game 5 was the most amazing play I’ve ever seen—-right up there w Giambi’s play in the WS a few years ago. It is a delight to watch—-displayed incredible field awareness—hopefully it will be posted on this site to watch over & over

Chase, I am so very proud of you and the entire team. Words can’t express how I good I felt when you won. You all deserved it. I never thought that I could be prouder to be from Philly. Oh, I was at the ceremony after the Victory Parade and I absolutely loved your speech. You truly are amazing in every way.

Chase, all I want to say is thank you. You were great all season and you came up huge when we needed you to in the World Series. In an age where baseball stars usually go the way of the needle and act like jackasses on TV, you play your heart out and don’t run your mouth off like that team from NY.

Oh, and that little World f’n Champions speach, classic man, classic. Have a great offseason, and I cant wait to see you guys in action next spring.

Congratulations. Thanks for “getting it”. I guess it’s hard for someone to experience these past two days and not get what the Phillies mean to the people in and around the city. You and your teammates seem to get it and you guys are now bonded with us forever as champions. Let’s see how crazy we can get when you win back to back championships.

P.S. talk Pat Burrell into staying here for another one.
